Wheelhouse notch or different seats? I have a 1969 CJ5 and just dumped a lot of money in it. The problem is now that I have found out that it is very tight and has limited leg room and I am only 5' 9" tall. I searched the forums and read the past articles on seat changes or wheelhouse notching. Any suggestions, I would like to avoid having to cut the tub if possible. What type of seats would allow for more leg room.
    Thanks in advance

Which seats you have now? You're about my height, though I probably have shorter legs (29" inseam). Before coming here I never thought I had too little room. I like the stock seating position though.

Maybe you should mock up some thinner seats out of plywood. If you can't get comfortable with that, then I'd think the notch (or a CJ-6 or Commando) is your only option.

Honestly I'd use the search function and look up "wheel house notch" and "seats" buckets"....you'll find alot of past discussion

Hmm. Smaller steering wheel and power steering?

Still, I think I fit ok and I have an ample belly.

I think they are the stock seats. There is one more knock out towards the rear, but it seems to line up with the hole for the bracket in the center of the jeep.

I'm the same height... I made a custom seat bracket for my glass tub and used "Super Seats" in the '71... I also installed a tilt steering wheel out of a '78 CJ. This combo worked well for me... my only discomfort was the position of my leg on the accelerator after more than 2 hours of highway driving.

I've heard that Honda Civic seats are near bolt-in and have a thinner back than most, allowing a tad more room.

Some pics from the seats I installed in the '71.

Here is a list of JY seats you might want to look into.

    Junkyard seat suggestions:
Honda civic seats might be a near bolt in.
    Fiero
    Mustang
    Sunfire
    Cavalier
    Escort GT
    Nissan 300zx
    Accord
    **86-91 BMW 3 series sport (318is, 325es, 325is)
wanna bad *** seat? get a seat out of a mid 90's 3 series coupe. you wont be dissapointed...better yet E36 M3 seats are the cats meow....hell any BMW seat is

**These are RX-7 seats.... they are VERY comfortable, have a flat 4 bolt pattern (stock jeepish,) super light (fiberglass shell,) and fit harnesses perfectly..

    86-93 Acura Integra

**Late model sunfire / Cavalier seats bolt up to stock YJ / CJ seat frames. No mods needed. Cheap at the yard and plentiful. The head rest is seperate and the seats have good bolsters.

Mitsubishi 3000 GT...pretty push, and have seperate headrests. The only dowside is that they are a little wide

93-97 MX6 seats with the integrated headrest. Firm seating, reclining, cloth, hard plastic backs, strong frames and awesome looking. I love the rounded head rests and a 4-point is definitely in the future. Passengers side flips forward and the drivers side bottom has tilt adjust. Still have to decide which sliders to use (YJ or MX6) but they should be easy to fab in

The problem I find is not enough room really between the bottom of the steering wheel and the top front edge of the seat cushion. The PO put in aftermarket, I-have-no-idea seats. I'm 5'6"
