I have a 59 CJ 5 with Dana 25 front and Dana44 rear, it has 5.68 ratio. I would like to go to the least aggressive I can find. The magazines I have looked at show something like a 3.71 for the rear and a 3.54 for the front. I would think they would have to be the same, anyone know what is available and where I can get it. Also, installation tips would be welcome.

I did not know you could get an overdrive with the CJ5, T90, D25, D44, F4 engine, and pk brake on transfer case. Where do you get it and what all has to be changed?

I agree with going with an overdrive. With that tall of diff gears you'd find the engine doesn't have enough power on inclines to push it down the road. With the overdrive, you can simply shift it to direct and continue on. Probably not going to find 3.54 for the 25 front diff anyway unless you get a similar ratio from a Wagon.

Plus changing axle gears is too advanced for most amateur mechanics. I expect it's the single most technically challenging job you can do as a mechanic. If you don't know what's involved, you'd likely need to pay someone to do it - $$.

Overdrives, however, are easy to install.

Looks like the overdrive is the logical next step. If anyone knows where I can get a good used one at a reasonable price, please let me know. I tried to search the classifieds but had some sort of problem, it just set there and did nothing. Thanks for all the replies.
