Water pump question

    Ahoya to all!

    Time to replace the water pump on my '73 258. I got on the Flow Kooler website and noticed Their pump#1735 (AMC, Jeep) 232, 258. Engine app: Jeep 258/4.2L 1979-1975 CW rotation.

    Will this pump work for intermediate CJ's 72-75? It's hot here in the high dirt, and would love to move more coolant. My only other option is to head to SLC for a NAPA special.

    In need of sage advice:?

    Mmm. All I know is that there are at least a few different pump/belt/pulley/bracket setups for the 232/258 Jeeps. Mixing and matching between engines is always iffy. I'd suggest you look for a listing for an exact replacement for your existing pump. If the Flow Kooler lists your application exactly, then it's probably going to work. Otherwise, very very unlikely.

    See what Rock Auto has for you. They usually offer a few different brands, and have low prices.

    <edit> And, since Rock Auto sells Delco and Airtex, there's the possibility of crossing the Delco or Airtex number to a Flow Kooler. Doesn't always work, and isn't always totally accurate, but maybe worth a try.

    There are basically two styles of WP for the 258. One has the main inlet pointing diagonally up (Driver's side) and the other points diagonally down (DS). They will both fit and work fine, but you need to figure out which one you need to fit your other accessories.
    There is also the dreaded reverse WP from a Cherokee, don't use those. Luckily they say "reverse" on the front and were never used in CJs.

    I expect there are two styles of casting like Brian describes, but I'd be careful about assuming too much. Just because the casting is the same doesn't mean the hub depth is. I suspect that there is more than one hub depth for one or both styles, considering how much trouble members here have had getting pulleys and brackets to line up right on different engines.

    the one with outlet up, I had with 232 with out power steering . the one with the down is for with power steering and the alt on the left side .and the timing mark is on right side too.
