Has anyone tried squeezing the BFG M/T 33x10.5" on factory 15x6 wheels?

Main problem with wide tires on narrow rims in my experience is they bulge over a lot and really reduce your turning radius.

The BFG web site spedifies 7-9 inch rims for the MT KM2 in the same size. 6" wide rims sounds like a tight squeeze and will probably end up crowning your tires causing them to wear in the center.

Another vote on 6" being too narrow. 8" is great with a 10.5" tire.

    I'd run 10" tires on a 7" wheel but 6" I wouldn't. I have 8" wheels now. JMO.

I just mounted a set of 10.50 on 7" and there is a slight bit of crowning. I think 6" would be too narrow.

I have 11.50's on 7's....look fine, been running the combo for years, but does hurt the turn radius. I just installed spacers up front and gained alot back, but haven' played on a ramp yet to see if I'll now have tire/fender interference.

IMHO you just run them a bit underinflated (22psi for me) and the wear will be fine.

AFAIK the 5 on 5.5" Jeep CJ wheels are 5.5" width, not 6". The 6 on 5.5" FSJ wheels are 6" wide. Width is measured from the inside of the bead mounting surface to opposite bead mounting surface, not the overall width of the wheel. JMO - anything only slightly wider than the factory tires needs a wider wheel. 8" width will work with a lot of different tires, and doesn't stick out very much.
