before I throw the 225 back in the jeep I want to go through it and replace whatever needs replacing. It runs strong, but has some blow-by and burns a little oil. Due to time constraints I am going to have it professionally done. I called a local engine shop this morning and they told me around 1800.00 for the rebuild (pistons, rings, rockers, etc.). I will keep checking around but this seems a little steep to me. I am wondering what anyone has paid for a rebuild and what have you had to replace? Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

That for a bench job or does it include R&R? If it's R&R, that's a great price. If not, you can compare to a parts store rebuilt to get an idea.

Check at Autozone for the price of a complete rebuilt engine... I think that will be the cheapest if you don't want to do the work yourself. Also ask about the cost of the master kit - that will give you an idea of the parts cost.

I just paid $1500 to the machine shop, and they did not reassemble the motor. That includes $542 for the rebuild kit (pistons/cam/lifters/timing set/gaskets/etc.). The PO had grenaded a piston by dropping a bolt down the intake with it running, so it needed a lot of tlc.

$1800 rebuilt sounds great to me!

Oh...and the $1500 I referenced above also included having the heads rebuilt (those rocker shafts are expensive!...mine were pretty grooved) and having the cam bearings installed. It went together in just a few hours, so not too tough (except for my question about head bolts posted above!!).
