hurricane octane rating

    I was terribaly interested in the octane rating required for a hurricane but i found it mentioned as 79 in the M38A1 maintnance book p81. it took me an hour to find so i figured it should be posted. to my knowledge this should be the same for a 6.4:1 ratio f-head.

    83 octane I think. might be lower.

    I run waste gas in mine from work (gas from filter changes and station mantaince aka nasty stuff) , no issues. Mostly its a combination of gas diesel kero water and trash .

    Bear in mind the octane ratings formula has changed over the years. Old octane numbers, I believe, are not the same as the current ones.

    Doesn't matter, F-heads will run on kerosene or better....

    More of a potential issue is vapor locking, corrosion, and so on, as different additives have been used to allow crappier gas to be used, and winter emissions to be reduced, etc
