My 72 has a 232 T-14 combo. The motor has VERY low oil pressure after warmup, less than 7 lbs at idle. I have purchased a 232 from a 79 AMC spirit with less than 100000 miles on it. What are your opinions on the ignition system in this motor. I like the idea of not having points, but is this one of those problematic electronic ignition systems that I hear about? The module did not come with it, but the plug hanging off the dist. is round with three terminals.
Also, anyone out there know where the cheapest place to get a windshield gasket is? Bought a new frame and need to get my original glass back in.
Thanks in advance for any and all help

The two ignition swaps that seem to be popular are the GM HEI and the Ford TFI setups. The HEI is all contained in the distributor, whereas the TFI has the coil and control model located seperatly. I just finished installing the TFI but have yet to fire it up since I'm still involved in the rebuild.
From what I've read, either system would be a great swap. I can't comment on you original ignition since I'm coming from a points system.

I'm running the HEI (now modified for efi computer timing control) and am very happy with it, the gm stuff is simple and reliable. Just run a GENUINE GM ignition module and you will have few problems.

The ignition system on a '79 engine will be the "Duraspark" distributor, made by Motorcraft. This distributor is certainly superior to the problematic Prestolite ignition used from 1975 through 1977. The Prestolite distributor can be best identified by its plastic vacuum advance can. The Duraspark distributor has a steel vacuum advance can. I would not hesitate to use the Duraspark parts if I had them. The Duraspark distributor can be upgraded by using the "TFI" parts from a later Motorcraft distributor. If you google search for "TFI" and "Duraspark" you will find lots of information about this distributor.
