    I am installing new metal brake lines on my 75 CJ5 and need to know where the lines go on the porportioning valve. The outlets on the master cylinder are marked front and rear and I need to know what connects where on the valve. Is the valve marked front and rear? The inlet hole on the valve towards the front of the Jeep is a smaller diameter than the one towards the rear. I have all the other brake lines connected to the valve and just need to know about the one's from the master. As always, assistance is greatly appreciated.

    The way mine is connected is that the line towards the front of the prop. valve connects to the outlet towards the front of the master cylinder. The line towards the rear of the prop valve connects to the outlet towards the rear of the master cylinder. In other words, the lines run parallel and do not cross. I installed a set of stainless brake lines and they were pre-bent out of the box and they fit correctly this way without any problems.

    I'm not trying to steal this posting, but would the valve remain in the system if the vehicle is now using front drums, as in my case?:?

    Now using front drum brakes? A '75 CJ came with 4-wheel drums from the factory, and a proportioning valve. Are you referring to the '75 model?

    Hi Tim,
    The frame that I'm using was from a 74 or 75, not sure. It looked like it was set-up for a V8 and had a proportioning valve, which I thought indicated disc brakes. Apparently I was incorrect in my thinking. Should I keep the valve in the system or can it be eliminated?

    P.S. my original frame was a 73 with no valve, which seems to be the source of my confusion.

    I'd keep it, if it works.

    OK, I'll re-install it since it should be there. Can't say for sure if it works, since it was on just the bare frame when I started, and the cj still needs the dash wiring completed before I can try anything out. I probably won't be able to get back to it until after summer. Had to switch over to boats for now.
    Thanks for your input,:coffee::coffee:

    So then the way my master cylinder is configured, the outlet for the rear brakes (closest to the radiator) would go to the smaller diameter inlet on the front of the prop. valve and the outlet on the master for the front brakes (closest to the firewall) would go to the larger diameter inlet towards the rear of the prop. valve.

    Everything should be connected just as in the picture posted by nwedgar, only the outlets are on the passenger side of the master cylinder.
