Anyone know if I do an SOA on my Jeep that I would be able to put on some 37's? I heard that an SOA would give me approx. six inches of lift.
    Thanks for your feedback

Dumb question: why does one have to have the differential gears changed when increasing tire size?

You don't have to do a gear change but you may want to do a gear change. Its all about torque..... the bigger the tire the more torque it takes to move it which means more torque/load on all the drive components which can equal BREAKAGE!
The other thing to look at is the optimum running RPM at cruising speed. The bigger the tire the lower the RPM at the same cruising speed. Novak has good calculators to figure out what gearing is needed to stay within the optimim RPM range. But don't forget about Torque/ load.

I have a spring over, 1 inch shackle lift in front (wrangler stock) and 1 inch body kit and I think I may be able too. I am going with 35s soon. pics are on 33s.

Mmm. No personal experience, but I think the rear opening is about 34" in diameter, so with 37s you either have to lift enough so that the tires never fully enter the openings, or you have to enlarge the diameter. The fronts will interfere too - early CJs will grab the leading edge of the fender, and intermediate/late will hit the rear edge-corner of the front fenders.

Should be much less of a problem if you run tube fenders and can cut the rear fender openings.
