best heads for a 304

    going to do a complete rebuild over the next year on a 304 that i have sitting around... so i am now buying parts.... what heads work and flows the best for a 304? thx,,, p

    I believe the only aftermarket heads are Edelbrock and they are for the 360-401. The 304 has more than enough power in stock form for my taste.

    read the post.... guess 360 heads are out.... has anyone ever put in a retro roller rocker cam in a 304?

    You can put oversized valves in a 304 head. They won't be as large as the 360/401 valves, but they will be larger than the stock valves. I'm no expert on this, but here's a thread to start with: http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=95564 Also covers roller rockers.

    Remember that oversized valves will generally push your torque peak up in RPM, so less low end. A good valve job, polish and match may be as far as you want to go with this.
