D20 to T150 seal/gasket

When I pulled out the t-case (D20) form my '78 I noticed remnants of a very old paper gasket between the trans (T150) and t-case.

Do I need to use a paper gasket (or whatever material it would be made of) or can I just RTV it and go?

Same question for the oil pan on the D20...I did not take the pan off but I would like to do so and then need to know what to reseal it with...??

    Thanks!

Put the gasket between the trans and transfer case. Many people don't but the gasket also acts as a "shim" to space everything properly, like the transfer case input gear. I'd recommend a gasket for the pan also as they are notoriously leaky if you don't. Make sure the pan surface is straight, especially around the bolt holes. If they are dimpled you can carefully straighten them on a flat surface and a hammer.
It's ok to use a thin coat of sealer on both sides of both gaskets, in fact I recommend it to take up the imperfections in the surfaces. The key here is a thin coat and don't overdo it. You don't want excess to break off later and plug up oiling holes.

That's what I needed to know.

    Thanks!

Now...can I get one from a local store (IE Advance or Napa)? Or do I need to order one?

I can get the D20 gasket set local but it does not inclued the trans/t-case gasket.

That's weird. All the 20 transfer case gasket/seal kits I've gotten had that gasket in there as well as all the T-15 gasket sets. If you can't find it contact Hermtheoverdriveguy, R&P, Partsmike, or any of the many other vendors listed in the "where to buy parts" sticky.

I'm going to check with the parts stores today. On line the pics of what comes in D20 gasket kit does not show ...nor does it list (any of the included) that gasket as part of the kit.

Thus far I am also unable to locate on line (other than from 4WD hardware/quadratec etc) the T150 gaskets.

I;m sure I'll find it somewhere...I just want to have it all ready so when the new tans gets here I am ready to bolt it all back in.

You could always make a gasket.

If you have a good FLAPS, ask them to look at their old Felpro books for a gasket.

    Struck out here.

Quickest I can get them is next Monday from Advance or napa.

I am going to call 4wd hardware now to see if they have it in stock and how quick I can get it.

I will have them by Wednesday...ordered from 4wd hardware.

Hopefully I'll have this thing back together to drive it to the AMC show at the Daytona Speedway this weekend!
