    Any one know what size socket I need to remove the rear pinion nut? Its on a 1970 dana 44 with the flanged axle. I know its bigger than 1 1/8 but smaller than a 30mm. They were the only two I had that were close.

    Also does anyone happen to know what part number the seal is? Every web site seems to only show a dana 27 seal.

    Thanks Lenard

    sammy Coca-Cola?

    30mm=1.181"
    1 1/8= 1.125"
    ?? Should be a 1 1/8 or 1 1/16 socket...

    The seal should be the same as '71-75 CJ-5. '70 was a transition year for the rear axle, but I expect they are the same for the flanged or nutted axles.

    Rock Auto shows a National 5788, same front and rear.

    Normally the nut is 1 1/4". Are you sure there isn't some dirt, grease, or something similar not allowing the socket to fit in the yoke and over the nut? Sometimes I've found I've almost had to chisel old packed in grease out to get a socket in.

    The pinion seal is the same for Dana 44's, 30's, 27's, and 25's. At least in all the ones I've done they were the exact same part.
