What is the button head looking thing above the passenger side rear wheel on the body for?

Did someone use it to shore up the baffke that supports the spare tire?

Bumper for the side-mounted spare. Helps to stabilize the spare, or keeps it off the body.

Bumper for the spare makes sense. Thanks a lot:beer:

My spare bumpers were made of oak and bolted on in that position.
Till one of the PO scraped the spare and mount off the side using a tree or something. Left a hole the same size as the mount that is now welded to the tailgate

    Idiot!
