Anyone ever swapped one of these into a Cj-5? I have a opportunity to do some R&D on one of these sixes and was wondering who here has tinkered with them much

Long for a short nose, note AMC's mods to the frame and fenders to fit the 230/258 in the CJ line up.

Are we talking 230 OHC, or 232? Still long of course, but thought I'd ask for clarification. ;)

Bob Stewart is the guy you need. He's on Willys Tech, from Wisconson.

Which straight 6? The OHC 230? Or an AMC 232/258?

It is a very heavy engine and long for the CJ5. If it was the civi OHV 230 there were reliability issues too. If the military version they were reliable but heavy and very expensive to get rebuild parts for. They don't rev very high either. My advice and I don't even take my advise, sell that engine and get a V6. Light is king w/ these jeeps.

Hmm, I saw one of those in St. Jo MO a couple years ago. 2A with a Hudson straight 6 in it. Not a common thing to see, I wonder...

Had one with a falcon six a lot a years ago. still IIRC wasn't much room between it and firewall and radiator.

If you're thinking of the Tornado, my brother had one in a Jeep Utility wagon and he had nothing but problems with it. The biggest problem was the long timing chain that would stretch and throw the valve timing off.

I've seen the Chevy 230 and Studebaker L6 in early CJs, but they both had firewall mods. The Kaiser 230 would fit more easily in a '72 and newer CJ.

'Spensive and scarce parts, but you knew that.
