'72 Cj5 steering ercks.

Alright, I need to know if a power steering pump from a wagoneer with an AMC 360 will bolt to my '72 304 and also I am wanting to keep my original column but want to change out the mondo school bus steering wheel for a smaller one. How do you get the darn thing off? Thanks.

 

The pump will work fine, get all the bracketry, hoses
And belt.

Not sure about the wheel but there's been a few posts made about removing it recently. Maybe someone will chime in for you on it.

Thanks. The pump is still on the waggy so I will for sure get the brackets and hoses, belt etc. And Im hoping someone does because I have looked everywhere and can not get an answer.

 

I was only able to get my bus wheel off with a hydraulic press.
If you want to remove it in-situ, you will have to fab up a "C" collar to support the "skirt" of the wheel

 

i soaked it with penetrating oil overnight.
and put a jack and some webbing on there.
stack washers on the loosened nut to give you enough height.



my puller cost $1

 

there is an enormous amount of force there.
i bent a slightly smaller version of the same jack and ruined it doing this on my 1st try.

so i was afraid to ask....

 

I aint sure if its technically a word or not...but I use it as a better choise of words. Purdy much means " Can someone help be get this BLANKING steering wheel thats too BLANKING big off the BLANKING column before I cut the BLANKING thing off and go a different BLANKING route!?" Ha, no but thanks for all the help. I will try that jack trick and see what happens. I go sometime next week to get my power steering pump so I may just snag the waggies column and steering shafts while im at it. Oh, almost forgot, my jeep is at my brother in laws while Im using his little truck to putt around in and he brought it to my attention that my steering colar (that u-joint-splined coupler thing that connects steering column to steering rod) was just about to fall off. Gear box side bolt had backed itself out and the colar just sort of flops around...no idea how long its been that way or why its still steering.
