Charging problem!!?

    I put I new alternator in it bc the tester was reading the old one bad,
    But the new one still isn't charging like it should. Any idea of what this could be??

    sorry it is the stock 304. how do i tell if it is internally or externally regulated??

    What engine/alternator?

    External or internally regulated?

    If you wired it up as a 1 wire (Delco-Remy), then you usually have to rev up the engine in order to initiate the charging.

    Normally you will see some wires from the alternator going to a box (the regulator) if it's externally regulated.

    Could you take a picture of the back of the alternator?

    Given the age of our jeeps it's quite possible it's not stock and we need to know what you have.

    You say it isn't charging like it should. What are you seeing that lets you know it's not operating correctly? Can you give a voltage reading at the battery when the engine is off, and then when the engine is on?

    If you tell us the year of your Jeep, we can figure out what type of alternator it is. Or post a picture of the alternator. Both would be better - the more information you give us, the better.
