I picked up an inexpensive 231 for a swap for the 225 that had a hole in a piston.

The 231 has no fuel pump. Should I get the mechanical or switch to electric? Does it need a return line? Will the pump from the 225 work?

    It has the stock 2bbl.

    Thanks for the help

If the 225 pump is in good shape it will bolt up and should work. Volume should be comparable as should the pressure. I've switched them between Buick 340, 350, 300, 225, 231, and 252 with no issues. YMMV as there can be differences in years of the timing covers.

    Thanks Nick,

I never had any issues with the one from the 225. I'll give that one a try.

For an example, I pulled the pump off of my '78 231 and put it on my '67 225, and it worked fine..
