Purchased a wiper switch for my 74 cj5. The original switch is square and this replacement is round. figured I would just open my shop manual to the wiring diagrams... however it turns out the publisher of my shop manual has a block of pages missing. I guess I have an incomplete/defective manual. So can anyone help me out with a diagram so I can wire up my wiper switch?

I happen to have the entire harness with all the switches attached laying out on my garage floor right now. I am re wiring my 74 with the painless kit. I will try and take a picture for you or get the color code.

There should be a plug that fits on the back - the shape of the switch should not matter.

If the plug does not fit, you have the wrong switch. Cutting and separating the wires to make it fit would be a mistake, IMO.

    Wiring diagram is here: http://oljeep.com/gw/74_tsm/22-7-CJWiringDiagram.pdf

It appears that you have the right switch. the hot feed coming off my harness is red with a white stripe. and connects to the bottom post. The three wire lead from the wiper motor has a plug on the end and will configure to the top three posts on the switch that you have/ so it appears. there is an extra un used post between the plug and the hot lead and do not know what that is for.

I will have my kids get the photos up tonight

I took photos of the other switches as well, incase some one needs them.
The windshield wiper motor is new so I plugged that in as you can see.
Let me know if you want a picture of the switch without the plug but that is the same as what you have.

    Hope this helps

PS I do not know how Patrick gets the whole picture to scroll on the thread so I guess you will have to go to the photo bucket album

Dave thanks for the picture. whats the inline box for On the positive side of your switch? my switch is missing this item. I just have the wiper wires and the round switch only.

Ah see we learn some thing every day. It makes sense as the original harness had very little fuse protection. I don't think I need to install another one with mine since the painless system is all fused, do you agree???????
