Sorry, just couldnt control myself on the first post.

There are a couple of places making a disk brake setup to install on the transfer case, I seem to remember Parts Mike as being one of the vendors.

Hopefully someone will have more info.

Here is what Parts Mike has,

Why not just put the stock one back on?

That drive shaft lock is not really an emergency brake but rather a holding brake. Can't see that brake being strong enough to brake the D-18 unless there were other issues. If it were mine I would go back to stock and not worry about it.

True, definitely not an emergency brake. I only use mine to "hold" it when stopped in a precarious situation.

Just as the rear end gears multiply the drive torque, so will they multiply the braking force of this (or any other drive line brake) unit.

Just gotta have the tranny in neutral, or the clutch in, for maximum effect.

Think about how hard it is to bump start in first gear, VS second or third.

    Gear ratio is your friend:D

Concerning the pre 1972 transfer case brakes.....
According to Willys Motors Inc., it is commonly referred to as a parking brake.
However I have seen limited publications where they definately referred to it as an emergency brake.

Parking brake is the standard term yet emergency brake is also correct.

The definition of an 'emergency brake' is a mechanical device to allow braking if you should loose the 'normal function' of your brake system. It became know as a 'parking brake' because they wanted folks to set it in case a vehicle slipped out of gear or was unable to hold position on an incline without a brake engaged. They didn't want you to think it was an 'emergency', so they called it a 'parking' brake - same thing same function - different reasons...
