ok so i just put my jeep back together, after having it in the quansett hut for a two months. not having it for that long and wanting to drive it, and plow with it. i took it out and drove it. it started fine ( well like usual pull choke let warm up for ten min) so whe i was done playing i parked it today i went out to finish some plowing and it wouldnt start. i did notice that the inline filter did not have any gas in it, even after cranking for a while. ive never had a pump problem and it ran last nite. i think i did notice some frost on the filter element inside the fuel filter, but im unshure of this, i am goin to get a new filter. but im wondering if anyone had any ideas y this mite be before i go buyin parts. and i will be adding gas antifreeze seems how i live in maine and its frickin freezing here. any info will be helpful thank you....o and i should mention i have the dauntless v6, other than that i dont knw much about the engine i.e. size. and i think its an odd fire

Could also be a plugged fuel line or rust in the tank and not the pump.

The same thing happened to me. I have a 68. Turned out to be rust in the fuel tank and what appeared to be the tank lining or varnish plugging the fuel line.

I had a 3 foot strip of magnet from a refrigerator door gasket that I put through down the gas tank through the neck and the magnet came out with lots of chunks of rust. That was when I knew the tank was problems.

Also, mine had a filter screen on the top of the fuel pump which would get full of rust.

I cleaned out the inside of the old tank with a pressure washer, which got out the rust, but now the tank leaks.

I'm currently running with a 5 gallon boat style gas tank strpped in the back and an electric fuel pump with an fuel pump regulator set for 2 1/2 lbs.

When I was working on the jeep and welding on it, I used a 1 gallon (red plastic) tank that I would strap to the front bumper between the bumper and grill and feed to the fuel pump. This worked great for moving the jeep around, and it was easy to remove the tank when I wanted to weld on it, to avoid explosion.

    Good troubleshooting tip.

I suspect this would shortly result in the same problem.

Pull the engine oil dipstick. Smell the oil. If it smells like gas is in there, you need a fuel pump. They're not that expensive. Change the pump and your oil.

I hate to ask, but is there gas in the tank? If not, add some and a couple cans of dry gas.

If it's clogged start with the filter. Try diggers trick, if you have a magnet like that. Be sure the magnet's clean before dropping in your tank. You can also try Uncle Bill's trick, but expect it to reoccur.

If you do find crap in the tank, you're probably gonna need a new one. Aftermarket tanks are available in both metal and polyethlyene. Your only alternative is to take it to a specialty house and have it cleaned and re-lined. Last time I checked re-lining was the more expensive option.

i had chunks of rubber in my tank.
    (i dunno why)
so i cleaned it real good.
patched a couple pin holes with that gas proof steel putty stuff .
    and installed it.
    been fine since.

tank is new so im not expecting much sediment. yes there is half a tank of gas. but im getting more to mix with the isopropal for the possible line freeze.
and i called every flaps in bangor today, and no one had a pump. napa was the only one thta could even find one in the book. until i called carquest and told them it was a 68 with the same eng. and bang there is was one in the wharehouse. so im goin to get it its only 35 bucks, cheaper than napa too. ill also pick up and inline filter..i wil post my results

I noticed you said Maine try thawing out the fuel line especially if its real cold it may have froze , since I had same issue when its cold , now at every fill up here in Colorado , I put in a bottle of heat anti freeze that is made for fuel systems and my fuel lines don't freeze , even at 10 below and we see that from time to time with our winters , I just thank god our winter so far this year is mild , Not like how your getting hammered up there in Main and the east coast

Don't forget to check your lines. Some pumps will have a return line as well as a feed from the tank. Check what you have before you head out. Early 70s Skylarks and Regals are also good parts to check for a cross reference.

:rofl:ok now i feel kinda stupid bought the new pump and installed it. which works great and changed the inline filter. the old pump pumped when i took it off but PO used form a gasket, which i dont like to use in gas situations so i decided that needed to go. poured some gas antifreeze and bout a gallon of gas in the tank to mix. jeep fired right up ran great. took my 3yo daughter out to plow shes been beggin me, and ran out of gas aparently my gas gauge is wrong or the pick up is short. so this is where i feel stupid the whole time i needed gas like van said R) well at least now i have a spare pump and the filter needed to be changed anyway thank you everyone for the help:oops:

I keep a length of wooden dowel under the seat. Makes a dandy "fuel level gauge" for situations just like yours. My gauge is overly pessimistic due to a soggy float, so I usually have more than indicated.

Reminds me of the time I replaced the fuel pump in my '94 Chevy truck right after I replaced the intake manifold gaskets.
Turns out I forgot to plug the 2 wire plug back into the distributor..
