Early Cj5 Fenders

    Does any one know why the fenders are made with three pieces? :flag:

    From what I gather Jeep didn't have the ability to stamp metal to a great depth (I seem to remember reading they were using machinery that normally did refridgerators, etc). I'd guess it's related to these limitations of machinery, otherwise they could have done 1-pc units and saved time/labor.

    As I understand the original fenders on the M38 were two piece and then due to some reason they added the third "triangle cover" piece. maybe for added strenghth?

    I don't know if the two piece fenders were ever used on Early CJ-5s or not.

    The original M38A1 fenders were just two piece, the patch was applied in early '54 before the CJ-5 was made.

    This was discussed in umm, Mike Ruta's M38A1 thread when he first got it.

    Now go do a search and find that thread. R) <ducking>
