I hope this is the best place for this.....anywho....

I am trying to find a set of the bolts that hold the two halves together for the split combat wheels, but in stainless steel. I don't quite dare undo one to go compare it for fear of breaking the bolt before I have a good lead on some replacements, but are they like regular carriage bolts?

They're going on a regular 55CJ, and will prolly be low gloss black, so I'd like to have some shiny bolt heads around the rim, so they're not going to be covered with OD. That's why I want shiny :D

    Thanks!!

I don't know the size or type of the factory bolts, but I'd research them compared to stainless before making the switch. Stainless has different strength/shear/stretch characteristics than steel and that's a pretty critical application.

For anything obscure and military, your best source is likely the G503 forum: www.g503.com

Someone there should know what size/type/material/dimensions the original bolts are.

Why stainless? JMO - sell the combat rims and buy the bling aftermarket wheels of your choice.

Ooooh!!! I never thought of the strength issues!! Thanks for the advice!!

And I like the looks of the hub bolts, the lug nuts, then the split rim bolts standing out....Besides anyone can have bling wheels....But how many have split combat rims? :D But I am off to search that site...Thanks!!

Might also look into high strength chrome headed bolts. Chroming causes hydrogen embrittlement (weakens the bolt) but the chromer can compensate with higher strength/different material bolts. I realize chrome can rust, but another option....

From what I can tell from googling and checking other sites, they're just like stubby head carriage bolts....there's a Fastenal right in Bangor so I'm going to pop one out and see what they have that will be strong enough to be safe for driving around. Chrome would definately work well....Thanks!!

Next I gotta track down shiny left hand thread lug nuts, LOL.
