Clutch/brake pedal return springs

    Any pics of the clutch and brake pedal return spring will be greatly appreciated. I have the clutch return spring but not the brake return spring. Any links to
    obtain the brake spring will help as well.

    Seriously you have to be kidding me about this Dam spring. I have spent a couple hours trying to get that thing on and finally stretched it over the tab and the hook straightened out and would not go into the hole. The hook stayed on the tab and with plenty of tension on the spring I operated the clutch pedal. It does not seem to be a return spring at all, and really had no major effect on the pedal. If any thing it appears to lighten clutch operation. DO I REALY NEED THIS THING IN THERE !!!!!!!!

    That's the clutch over-center spring. The clutch pedal will work without it, but it likely has better feel with it in place.

    Yes it's a pain to install. You may be able to get it in by taking the dash off and pulling on the bracket end - that's how I'd guess the factory installed it. Or the pedals and sled bracket were installed as a unit, with the spring already in place.

    I noticed in the picture the brake has a spring as well. do you know the part number or have a link to obtain one. I have been unsuccessful to that end

    It's Jeep PN 941529. I don't know of any aftermarket source that's specifically a replacement for that part. I suggest you try McMaster-Carr or your local hardware store for a work-alike replacement.

    Im planing on using my hanging pedals from my 74 CJ-5 on my CJ-3B body swap ,, So I should check to see if the springs are in place & if they are replace them with new ones wile I have it out correct ??? Is there anything else that can replaced like bushings ...:?

    I seem to recall reading once that there was a factory recommended shop procedure for replacing the clutch spring. It said to drill a hole in the firewall and attach a strong wire to the spring and use a large 2x4 for leverage from the engine side of the firewall.

    No need to drill the fire wall. I figured out a way to replace the spring thats pretty easy. I have pictures and am trying to get them on this thread. All you need is a bench press and a 3/8" bolt and some stainless weld rod.

    Ok I think I have the pictures up ok. Bottom line is to set up the bench press as shown. use a 3/8 bolt and cut the head off or use 3/8 solid round stock. Open the spring as shown 1.5 inches. this will allow the hook to be close to the hole when put in place. Put the assy in place/line up the hook on the hole and pull the pin. head ache over with. Took me about 1.5 hours kit & caboodle fabrication of tool and installation of spring.The 3/8 stock is 4 1/4".
    Oh ya that was after staying up till midnight two days prior trying to stretch that SOB with a spring wrench. To many cuss words forced a better solution.
