1984 cj7 Renegade

    I found a 1984 cj7 Renegade that i am would like to by but would like some opinions. Its got inline 6 and 4 speed standerd trany it comes with a softtop, bikini top, hard top, soft doors, half doors, and full doors new seatcovers locking center console and everything but the gas gauge and blinkers works. It is in great shape, no rust, decent tires and good paint and grapics. the asking price is $5000. What do yall think????

    Mmm. I recall most 258s got the T-176. I suspect it's a T-176, which you should look for.

    Check JeepTech.com for descriptions of both the SR4/T4 and T-176. http://www.jeeptech.com/trans/t4.html http://www.jeeptech.com/trans/t176.html The SR4/T4 can usually be identified by the curve in the shifter stalk. And the shifter arises from the back end of the transmission, instead of midway as in the T-17x. Look at the pictures on the JeepTech pages and know which transmission this Jeep has before you decide.

    I would avoid a T-4 equipped Jeep, but if the price were right (much less than $5000), it would be a good candidate for a transmission swap.

    Remember that people sell cars for a reason, so be suspicious.
