I know this has been covered, but my search tool results turned up nothing. I am re-doing a 57 cj5 and looking at used tub options (mine is toast). I noticed most manufactures break the models based on jeep design runs...ie 55-72 etc. The tubs "appear" to be extremely close in design, other than the little details like the faux battery cowl, etc.

So, are the differences in cj5 tubs all about frame support locations?, size?, windshield fit? What's the main differences when looking for a replacement tub? Keep in mind this is a highly modified cj...D44 front & rear, V6 auto and such. If I have no interest in being historically accurate, will a later model cj5 tub work on my 57? is the windsheild mounting surface (dimensions) the same?

Of course I would assume the normal issues such as tub mounting brackets. Main concern is the windshield frame mounting (because mine is good)

    Thanks in advance.

The main redesign happened for the 1976 model year. Broadly speaking, all the pre-'76 CJ-5 tubs are interchangeable with some work. Before 1976, all the differences were things like the the faux battery cover, "Jeep" script below the cowl, fuel fill location, etc.

The usual request is to put a later windshield ('76-on) on an earlier tub. You need to enlarge the mounting holes for the later hinges to fit, and I recall that the defroster vents are different, but it will work. So I would assume that an earlier windshield could be fit on a later ('76-on) tub, with similar minor changes. But the '76-on Jeeps have a different frame design, and the tub floors are very different. So using a '76-on tub would likely involve a lot of work. But I expect your windshield would fit ok, though that would not be my main concern with a '76-on tub.
