Dauntless pushrods

    Ok ,, I know this is probably gonna the dumbest question of the day ,,,, How does the oil get to the top of the engine ?? I'm workin on a 1967 Dauntless 225ci . I thought oil was supposed to get pumped up from the hydraulic lifter , thru the pushrod to the rocker assembly. none of the pushrods have oil passages in them ! I thought they were just plugged up , but when I tried to clean them , I noticed they appear to be solid . Ok ,, you can stop laughin now . I'll try to attach a couple pics . Dan

    there is an oil port in the front of the head and the oil comes up through that and runs throught the rocker shaft and out the arms.........i am going through issues with either lack of oil or something else right now thats causeing clatter in my one valve cover, i hope all works out for you....

    Jason,
    I just finished reading your post ,, Ok , so I'm not crazy , the pushrods are solid . Did you have the block and heads hot tanked when you did the rebuild ?? any chance that oil port is restricted ? Keep us posted on what you find . I"ll be interested to see . Hopefully it's just an adjustment issue . Thanks for the info , goin out to take a closer look at mine . Dan

    the pushrods are solid. the oils gets into the head through an oil port on the head that goes up into the rocker arm assembly. there are 2 oil ports in the head. the front 2 on mine were blocked. i used a wire and some compressed air to clear them and some oven cleaner to get the rest of the crud out. chevy push rods are hollow.

    Yes, 225 pushrods are solid and the rocker arms get oiled through the rocker arm pivot shafts. 231's oil the rockers through the pushrods.

    there is only one oil port per head on my '70, in the front of the head, there are holes in the back of the head but there isnt one in the block to match up..........

    maybe thats why one of mine was filled with gunk.

    Clearly the rear hole is there so the head can be used on either bank.

    I went through the same confusion. Oil finds it's way to the tip of the push rod and migrates down the push rod. I'm still not convinced they get enough oil but mine is still working. When I did my cam I blew air through the ONE feed on each bank to make sure it wasn't plugged. I also spun the oil pump with the rocker shafts removed and made sure oil was flowing out. Can't be too careful in this case.

    Lots of engines oil this way, Ford FE's for example, mostly engines that use a Shaft Rocker system.

    I pulled the heads off a spare engine and the oil holes in the block were plugged with white pasty oil. Couldn’t have been good for it. Will have to check the valve train for wear. Might be an expensive rebuild.
