I know it's not from a Jeep but still very cool. This engine is out of a mid 50 pickup.

Has original serial number and rebuild tag. Looks like it was rebuilt a long time ago and the bore is .030 over, rods, and mains are .010 over. Can't read the date on the tag. Thick goop througout the engine. Carb says Ford on it? Tore it down today and no cracks or anything and no broken bolts! Cylinders looks clean. It's going to the machine shop next week to do a detailed check.

My plan is to put it in a wagon or pickup if it's not too expensive to rebuild. I'll post more pictures of the internals if you guys are interested.

I thought it was bigger than it was but it's just long. What I found is the block weighs about the same as the f-head. The 226 is longer but the stroke is shorter so all in all about the same weight. I love when they are stripped down because I can lift the block without having to use the hoist or calling a buddy. They roll around nice on the Harbor Freight dolly.

These engines are really sturdy and durable, so it might surprise you if you clean it up and run it. They were used in Checker cabs and industrial applications into the '70s.

That's great news. I was kinda surprised they used these in the wagons and pickups into the 60's but I guess they did the job.

The first Jeep Dad ever rode in was a wagon powered by one of these. He said it would run 75mph down the NJ Turnpike all day long. It was his buddies Dads ride.

Far more durable than the 230 OHC engine that replaced it.
