Wondering if anyone can tell me the factory quantity of engine oil for a 65 225? Mine has a aftermarket adjustable dipstick and reads full with 5 qts, but I have seen a factory dipstick ( I think) that said quanity 4 qts.

    Thanks

Thanks folks, I'll keep using 5 quarts. And maybe even Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic which I just switched too since we are seeing sub zero mornings (a few -20) quite a bit here in CO and now the oil gauge moves in about 15 seconds compared to 30. First vehicle I ever used Synthetic motor oil in and this thing is a low buck Heep, but a daily driver - I love it. I think it is contagious, I just changed the Duramax to Rotella 5w40 syn today for same reason.

only problem with synth is once you use it, CAN NOT GO BACK to regular w/o overhauling motor.

    :?

I've heard such things about the old days (20 years ago?) of synthetic - but don't think it's an issue anymore. Please do elaborate.

What's the reasoning behind not being able to switch?

I thing the reason the rumor started was because synthetic oil will clean your engine pretty good, including any bad seals that were gunked up by the old oil. It's not that the synthetic causes problems, just that sometimes it uncovers things you didn't know about. I have herd of cars switched with well over 100,000 miles and had no troubles. And
certainly there's no reason you couldn't go back. If you have a really old
or high mileage engine, there is the possibility that you might get an
oil leak, but I've never seen it happen myself.
