Wanting to look at any pictures of CJ6's. I have one that is currently in pieces all over my carport floor. About to get it together, but need some inspiration. I will also be purchasing a top (soft top) for it, any ideas as to the best vendor to look at?

    Thank you

Bestop is probably the only big vendor that makes one. Here's mine-

So Bestop is my best bet, wasn't sure how hard it would be to find a top for a CJ6, I was thinking about just buying a safari top and adapting it, but I plan on using the jeep as a DD and would like some sides.

jeepermc, your 6 looks awesome, I'm reprinting my '67 but hate to lose that old weathered look.

Yeah I've seen "fast n loud" just sand down an old car and then clear coat to seal it. Not sure how that would work with preventing rust from spreading as well as the long term looks.
I have many times googled "original pictures of CJ6" and looked at it many times. The jeep that I purchase I was told is the one paint like an M170 ambulance. "Hemings find of the day" however, when I purchased it earlier this year it was reprinted, and I mean simply sprayed, everything sprayed, dark olive drab. Darker that what the picture shows. The rims and tires match as we as the little hook that was wielded to the back hitch, and the gray top and doors that came with the jeep, which are dry rotted now. I'm not saying that it's the same one but the guy I bought it
from only lived 1 hour from Baton Rouge. Anyway, I'm trying to put it back to normal as possible.

I've tried posting pictures but need to set IPA photobucket account. Will try to do this soon.

    Repaint, Repaint it....... Not reprint.

AFAIK the Tiger Top from Bestop is the only product available for the CJ-6. Getting them to fit is an ordeal. Pick the hottest day of the year in full sun to install.

If you want a bikini top, take some measurements and enlist the help of an upholstery shop that makes covers for boats. Should be straightforward. A bikini top and half-doors would be ok in warm weather. Half-doors would be the same as a CJ-5.

"Wanting to look at any pictures of CJ6's."

    Tried google or bing "images?"

"I was thinking about just buying a safari top and adapting it, but I plan on using the jeep as a DD and would like some sides."

Might be funky, but probably an army OD canvas top for an M-170 would fit the CJ6. They are available. Side curtains and doors swap in or out easily.

I've used just an OD top (w/o sides or doors) on CJ5s, like it a lot.

yep Jeep Nerd that is what I was thinking, I live in South Louisiana so extended periods of cold weather is nota problem, I never put the top on my Wrangler unless it's raining. Thanks for the info on the top I will look into it.

Cool Jeep, I like the color. Is it the Diomand blue? Mine was originally Presidents Red, however, I will be changing the color to either Prairie gold, which was a color for the same year '67 or a 1972 color of Baja Yellow or a 2008 color, detonator yellow. I would like to stay true to period correct color but that year really doesn't give me much options, of the 9 colors or so I only like the Prairie Gold.

    x2!

We like that well used look too. Here are our 2A/3A (2A body on a 3A frame) and our '56 CJ6. No plans to paint either one. The 6 already has 5 different colors on it, it's fine the way it is.

So it is true! They did make 2A's with a partially wooden body. ;)

It was a rare dealer installed option. We think ours is one of the few remaining examples. Dry western air helped preserve the wood. Most of them east of the Rockies are long gone.:tea:

RJ's CJ6: I like the half cab tops, either metal or canvas, I have both. Beachwood sells new canvas top kits, but they're pricey.

Thanks for the calendar vote Waggs.
