2G Auto Choke HELP!

So I just completed my first 2g rebuild...all is well, but my issue is this ... Since I have a "non-jeep" motor the exhaust headers do not have the heat riser and valve set up to run the hot air to the automatic choke. So the choke does not ever fully heat up to open up when the engine is warm. So the last PO forced the choke fully open thus trouble starting every time. I adjust it so loose so it closes on start up but doesn't still fully open when warm.....any ideas?

Im thinking of seeing how I can add a manual choke if. I can't figure out how to get the choke some warm air. Thoughts?

 

these jeeps had a manual choke . so change it back . plenty of choke conversion kits

about the only time I ever use mine is in middle of winter just for fast idle . it will start without it

 

I hate to admit it but many years ago I did a Bubba repair on my Commando that had a 2GC. About 4" of soft copper tubing run from the choke stove, around the exhaust manifold about 4 times and back up to the air cleaner for a fresh air supply. It is in proper, stock form now...
A 198 never would have had headers from the factory. About your only options are to hit the part store for an electric heater to make the bimetalic spring work or convert it to a manual choke. Or, of course, find the correct exhaust manifolds.

thanks!...guess I should have Google'd first. It looks like its a universal kit does anyone know if it will work with 2G? It's pretty cheap so it's a good risk I guess.

 

interesting...thanks. I think I found so choke kits on line too. Will keep researching but looks like there are options. Whew...
