Tried searching but couldn't hit the right phrasing I guess, sure it's been covered plenty

But new springs for my 55, with rubber bushings pressed in....

Stockers have like a long threaded tube that goes in the spring eye and over the U shackle...can I just pop out the rubber bushing and put these two pieces together, or am I missing something?

I really like those cute open end hangars and would like to keep them if possible

    Thanks a bunch!!

Should be a straight replacement. Are you going with all new parts?

Yes, springs are aftermarket 2.5" lift, then 4 new U shackles

Aren't there left and rights on the shackles?

Most new springs have an eye that is slightly too small to use the factory C type shackles without using a small barrel type sanding wheel on them.

I'm just going to order the kit from KW...I bought a new hangar for my frame awhile back and the shackle screwed in no problem....it was drivers side rear and screwed in clockwise....pass side could be counter....I don't really know!

There are two left hand thread shackles, on opposite corners. LF and RR I *think*.

If you have them on there now then hopefully they're correct and you can follow that same order.

I have the U shackles too. Do agree they look cool, but wonder how strong there are especially when we add larger tires, lift, etc.

Plenty strong is my guess. But you could add the military type outer plate (T).

That's a great idea. Is this diagram from a certain source so I can order?

The shackle with the bar over the open side is from the M38-A1. As far as I can tell, they are all right-hand thread. Back in the 70s, my boss Brian Chuchua ran those shackles on his race Jeepsters. I'm sure they are plenty strong enough.

Kaiser Willys sells them as left and right sides, so that takes care of any thread issues.

My current set up is bent and broken springs but the hangars *look* fine, so I imagine they can take some horse play.

Honestly, I'll probably only use 4 wheel drive to verify it all works, and that'll be it....no mud boggin or rock racing or Baja 5000's for us lol

Ordered new ones as a left and right pair....mine originally was left front, right rear had left hand threads on spring end

But on my 55 the front shackles are on the rear of the springs, not front like the later models

So I'm not sure where the new ones go, I assume on the same side, anyways

    Thanks!!
