I'm in the 488 club with a 69 cj5. I wasn't aware they were so hard to come by

I've got 3.73's w/ powerlocker front and rear. But I'm going to be changing to 5.38's, because the 4.88's are so hard to come by. Now for the Dana 44, Yukon gear sells a 4.88 thick gear ring and pinion set or regular R&P if you have the carrier for them for around $125. Now for the D27, they are next to impossible to find.

It's funny, now that I have an overdrive (still sitting in my garage), 5:38's don't sound too bad. I may already have a set, but I am not sure what ratio is in the '65's axles.

You can get the 4.88 gears from randy's ring and pinion and Krage easily. Used may be a different story but new is easy to find.

guess i've got the 4.88's. coulda sworn they were 5.38's because it was so slooww, almost the same speed as the willys with known 5.38's. did they ut 5.38's in v6's?? i know they coulrd have been swapped out, just wondering about it.

No, not AFAIK. 3.73 or 4.88 with the V6, 4.27 or 5.38 with the F4.

My imaginary CJ-5 has 4.88s. That is, my imaginary pre-72 Jeep has 4.88s. My imaginary intermediate Jeep has 4.27s. :D

Gotemherealso. With my overdrive and 30" tires works really well. Nonoverdrive is perfect around base/town, hit overdrive for the highway.
