Well I'm going to need to adjust my steering box, and I was reading through my FSM. It looks like I'm going to need to pick up a torque wrench that reads down to 8"lbs iirc. So where have you gotten yours and how much of a hit am I going to take?

Actually, I haven't... I borrowed one from the tool rack when I worked at an auto parts store. The other time I needed one I made one from a fishing scale, a piece of string and a flex handle.

All my torque wrenches are Snap-On..... Fairly pricey, especially if you wouldn't use it/ them often...

All mine as well. My dad gave me all of his hand tools. I think I probably have 30K or more in tools. All are Snap-On or Craftsman.

Well I went to sears, and they didn't have any in/lb torque wrenches. They also told me that even though my lug wrench is a hand tool, it doesn't have a lifetime warranty. So it was a bust of a trip

I just bought one online about a month ago. I did a search for "Torque Wrench" and found a site that specializes in them. It was pricey, about $135.00 Unfortunately I didn't bookmark the site and I can't seem to find the paperwork. I'll look for it again tonight if you are interested.

I don't know if you overlooked my earlier post. You can make an inch-pound torque wrench.

You need a 1/4" flex handle, a small fish scale, and a piece of string. Ideally your flex handle will have a hole in the handle end. Measure in inches from the center of the pivot (where the socket attaches) to the hole. Tie a piece of string through the hole and make a short loop. Put the hook from the fish scale thorough the loop. Put the flex handle on the bolt you want to tighten, and pull on the end of the wrench using the string and the fish scale.

Keep the string perpendicular to and level with the flex handle. The reading on the fish scale is multiplied by the length of the flex handle to get inch-pounds. For example, if the wrench is 6" long and you pull so the scale reads 4 lbs, that's 24 in-lbs.

George Bush told us of the internets. I ordered one from the link above. I checked MSC and stuff like that at work today, but that link was the cheapest.

HF only had 25"lb and above wrenches
