Are all Buick v6 motor mounts created equal??

    I am going to change out my motor mounts, i guess the oil leaks finally made them a bit soft, becuase right now the whole motor and tranny just moves side to side really really bad. The motor is a 4.1L but they were the same mounts i used in the jeep with the 225. Is there an aftermarket mount that is made from poly bushings??

    My Dad used motor mounts from AA. The reason he used these was to raise the front of the motor for front driveshaft clearance near the TH350 pan.. The AA mounts seem really adjustable, with poly "pucks"....

    HHMM. maybe i amsaying it wrong.i just need to get rubber pieces for it. i currently have square rubber type monuts, that bolt to the side of the block, then bolt to the steel monut to the frame

    Dan, I don't think any motor mounts are made from Urethane, to soft probably. The hard rubber is molded to metal for strength.

    I have some poly mounts in my 83 -7 with the 4.0. Don't know if anyone makes them for the V6. I just had mine out to replace the motor and noticed the stockers had different part numbers side to side, I can't tell a difference but I guess they are different. Hope I got them on the right side!

    Greg, what is the manufacture of the poly mouns you have for the cj7?? maybe i can call them up and see if they do supply them.

    gosh can't remember, put them in with the motor over 6 years ago. Wanna say daystar or energy suspension. I can check later tonight and let you know, I keep all my receipts.

    Poly mounts will transmit much more NVH to the frame and tub. Stay with good, relatively soft rubber mounts, the later ones with the finger interlock; so if the rubber does separate from the metal you don't get much engine movement. Look for mounts from NAPA for any 82 or so Buick V6. Thart's the advice I got from Eric at Novak

    Thanks Lynn, I will be lookin for them mounts. Hopefully when i rebuild the motor i can seal it up so the oil wont mess up the mounts again ;)

    Yeah, I'd think poly mounts would be too hard. I have read that the OF V6s have soft rubber mounts to minimize vibration.

    An old racer's trick is to either put a bolt through the motor mount and leave it loose, or add a limiting strap. Keeps the vibration damping but prevents the mount from separating.

    I've read that poly can be formulated to different hardness for different applications. I didn't notice any more NVH on my -7 when I went to poly mounts.
    With that being said I've had some poly shock mounts fail (crumble and fall apart) on some Rancho shocks sooner than I would have expected, so I'll agree it's not always better.

    Greg, I don't think any of the CJ7 engines were as prone to vibration as these little OFs... ;)

    You have a point there. I have a 91 4.0 ho motor so it runs pretty smooth, fuel injection. I have the 231 in my -5, so can't say I've ever experienced the oddfire.
