ok ive been doing searches on this and other site for hours and cant find out much.i took out my jeep today for a ride and i began to shake so bad the doors came open!!(wife not impressed).i have experianced this before but it was my pick up truck. i fixed it it had a left side brake caliper sticking.i know it dont make sense but that thing would shake the dog right out the back then if you jammed the brakes it quit the left side was stuck to the point you couldnt turn the wheel.so i thought maby that is the problem after all i did rebuild the brakes, but it was not.i also did a saginaw swap i checked that out sure enough the box was loose. i fixed that and still did it not as bad though.then i jacked up the front end to check the ball joints and what i found is that it has no ball joints. but what ever they are they seem to bee tight.the tie rods ar tight to.is there anything else you might try to fix this?

well i havnt worked with king pins before.the wheel berings are good just fixed them with new ones and even bought a socket to tighten them with!!!! as for the tires they are not balance i mounted them myself and they are 35inches tall. would that make a wobble so great it will shake the beer right out of the can?

is there a way to check with out takeing the hole front endapart.
ill ballance the tires tommorow.btw i worked 10 years in a tire store and you would be suprised how little ballacing a tire does i mean on a big mud tire the only way is to use ballancing sand.the 1/2 ounce weight hammered to the rim wont amount to jack, but on the same note you would be suprised how much ballancing a tire will cure.

LOL I know what you mean about shaking the beer out of the can. R) Another LOL re: wifey not impressed. :D

Equalizing tire pressure helped my "death wobble". Replacing the entire Ross steering linkage did too. :D Good luck!

I cured my death wobble this time around by changing the tie rod ends and the drag link ends. I've got the sagi swap with a dana 30. Double check your TRE's using a pry bar. I first just grabbed 'em and tried to shake with my hands and got nothing. Then I use a pry bar and found some play. If in doubt change them out.

I've been told that king pins will cause DW for sure. I couldn't get any play in mine. Also, check your spring bushings.

You could eliminate the tires by trying some other tires.

One more thing - I found some good info just by googling Death Wobble.

My last case of death wobble was water in a tire.
Seems the air comp I used had no filter.
Like to beat me to death.

Would a bad streering stabilizer (shimmy shock) cause this also?

Steering stabilizer shocks only mask the true problem. King pin bearings solved mine, but it could be a combination of several little things as well. Check for any play in the front end and go from there. ;)

In the 70s, even brand new Jeeps would shake the steering wheel at certain speeds from the factory. The factory cure was a steering stabilizer. Eventually all CJs came with a stabilizer.

Death wobble is something different though.

easy check: remove the tie rod and wheel. use a fish weighing scale (the pull kind), attach it to the tie rod hole. pull on the scale to see how tight the bearings are (should be 12-20#'s).

12-20#s without the seals on, with the seals on it'll be much higher.
