    Ok, here's the thread: http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24081
Scoll down and look at the posts by Jon (michigan pinstripes) and Lynn. Quoting Lynn

    "T14 for V6: 9.50" from face of tranny case to tip. 1 1/8" 10-spline, .590 tip diameter.

    T14 for straight 6: 8.50" from face of tranny case to tip. 1 1/8" 10-spline, .590 tip diameter. "

These are the CJ applications. The J-truck and Wagoneer stickout will be longer.

Tim I get ~9.35" from tranny face to tip. I recall that not being much diffo than the T-86 that went in.

Does it mean that I can't use this tranny then? :?

Well, that would make sense if it were from a V6 Jeepster. It looks longer than that in the picture. The Jeepster had a Dana 20, which would match with your bull gear. I had forgotten about the Jeepsters having the T-14, D20 and V6.

You definitely need to change the bull gear. Otherwise, it should be ok, but you need to check that you have the proper bell housing or plate adapter. Someone who has more experience with the stock V6 installation could answer that ... IIRC 71 had a special bell and the earlier years had a plate and used the passenger car bell, or vice-versa.

In 1971 the CJs had the T14 adapter molded into the bell as a 1-piece unit. Prior to '71, the bell and T14 adapter were separate units.
My AA info shows the T86 input as identical to the V6 T14: 9.50",
    1 1/8-10 and .590

Alan, at worse, I might have a T90 that was hooked up to the 198v6 in my dad's jeep. I'm going over thiere in a few to do some work. I'll grab whats left of the drivetrain and see if that would work. Or if it at least has the bull gear. It "should" work on the dauntless as long as you don't mind the unsyncro'd 1st gear.

yup, the '71 t14 will have a longer input... i found that out the hard way. which also means i have a '71 bellhousing lying around if you need that as well. i checked the tranny last night and the bull gear is still on there, i'll get out to count the teeth somethime later today.

This T14 is an unknown year...any way to tell if it is/isn't a '71?

Before installing the T86, its input shaft length measured similar to the T14's, which led me to believe it's bolt right up w/ the adapter & bell.

Is the front of the T-86 the same bolt pattern as the T-14? Somehow I think it is, so the T-14 should bolt up to your existing plate adapter and bellhousing. I'm skeptical that the '71 input shaft has a different length from prior years. Certainly the bell is different, but the OAL should be the same when the plate adapter is added.

The 71 model t14 is 9.5 inches same as the t86. Yes the t14 and t86 share the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing side.
