My dad bought a 1970 Renegade 1 from my uncles Jeep dealership new in '70. I recieved it as a college graduation present.

Does anyone know where I can get the paint code for this Jeep? The code on the firewall is 999 wich is the generic code Jeep used for special paints. I have searched every avenue I can think of. The original invoice from AMC says "winner green".

Second, my oil presure gauge has died. I would like to keep it stock, but cannot find a replacement. Any ideas?

Fianlly, the original Whitco top fit really well. It laid betwwen the spare tire carry and the tub and was protected by a boot. Ten days before Chrysler pulled my uncles dealership, he ordered a new whitco top. We left it in the box for almost 6 years. When we went to install it is not the same top??? It is a little different in design and does not fit between the spare tire and body. When you fold down the top it hits the spare tire (original factory installed whitco carrier for Renegade 1). Does anyone know where I can get one like the one my dad bought in 1970?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm guessing "Salida" Kahleeforneea?? Nice Jeep, and nice pic on your first post! <props>. Nice Birch!

According to my resources (Jim Allen's "Jeep Illustrated Buyer's Guide") there is no 999 code, or "Winner Green" (or even "Loser Green" ;)). But that doesn't mean that info's not out there. Perhaps someone w/ a Renegade will chime in.

It just so happens that tonight I just removed a '70 oil pressure gauge from my dash, what a koinkydink. Not sure why you'd want the original kind as it doesn't light up at night, but it's yours for $5 + the cost of shipping if you'd like.

On the Whitco top, and really with anything else, pics would help a bunch. Any chance you can snap pics of items in question?? I have a feeling I know what you mean about it not fitting w/ the spare tire, but a pic'd be most helpful to be certain. Thanks!

    BTW, welcome from Ohio.

Not California, but Colorado! Thank you for such a fast response. This oil gauge actually does light up...I will take photos of the top and gauge tomorrow.

Very cool on the gauge light-up as I never would have guessed it since not one of my 5 Jeeps (since) have ever had a stock gauge that lights up when the lights are actuated.

Looking fwd. to pics and your continued involvement here on the board!

Welcome, from Cape Cod. What a generous thing for your father to do, and by the looks of it your going to do him proud by taking such good care of it.

    Welcome from Boston!

Regarding the paint, I don't know where to find the paint codes. The Ren I had a very short run... if the Jeep factory books don't show it, your only recourse may be to match it.

That said, original paint will enhance the value of your Jeep a lot - and is way cool, especially on a rare car. Even if the paint isn't perfect, I'd keep it until it utterly fails. You'll know the paint has failed when you buff through to the primer, or when the surface rust erupts through the paint. I'd even tolerate some minor surface rust, and body damage. If you have major body damage, there's not much else you can do but respray. Minor body damage is cool ... part of the Jeep pedigree.

    <edit> Terrific Jeep BTW!

Howdy from W. MI. Great Jeep!

On the top...there might be a "telescopic" feature to the rear bow, where you depress some buttons on the bow and it will collapse to a shorter length to fit in front of the tire.

These buttons are often hidden under a vinyl sleeve that's there to protect the window from the bow.

Super nice and highly sought after Jeep you've got there dude....congratulations....send more pics and stay a while. We love to have your type around here. Nostalgia goes a long way. I second the don't repaint thing. Doesn't look like your jeep needs repainting. Besides, repainted rig especially in the Ren I seems to always look like it was faked. I'd personally prefer to see the original slightly faded green and factory stripes than a shiny new paint job. Oh and welcome from Mississippi.

Thanks for all the kind words! Trust me I do not want to repaint this Jeep...I just need to do some touchup on the passenger side floorboard. The top does not have a telescoping feature. I tried to put t he new top on the old bows to no avail.
