I'm braindead, the Renegade I saw here had mag wheels, I thought it was a one not a II. And it was '04-'05 from CO.

Regarding the oil pressure gauge, usually the failure with these is in the sending unit. The SU is a variable resistor to ground and you can substitute fixed resistors of different value to see if the gauge needle moves to approximately the correct reading. The resistances are given in the TSM.

If the gauge unit is broken, you may be able to substitute either a Stewart-Warner gauge or a gauge from a '72 or newer Jeep. The appearance won't be exactly the same, but I believe that these gauges were all sourced from S-W, at least in that general time frame. The newer gauges have a chrome bezel with (IIRC) the same profile, so you could either remove the bezel and replace with yours, or paint the bezel flat black. Again, according to my memory, the S-W electric gauge is identical except there will be "Stewart-Warner" printed on the dial. If you can't find the exact Jeep replacement, it might be worthwhile to try opening another gauge and seeing if you can make the cosmetic changes needed.

yes wyomike that is the exact top I am talking about! The WHITCO that Chrysler was elling in the late 80's is a different kind of setup. It fits the Jeep perfect, but when you try to fold it down it hits both the back seat and spare tire carrier. Any suggestions?

I know just what your mean about trying to find a top that fit like that first one did. I have tried for years with no luck. I just had to buy a new top and got a Bestop Supertop. The reason that I got it was because the bows looked like that old Whitco top. My thinking is that if its not just how "WE" want it to be like the old one, maybe I can change a few things and get it to fit behind the tire. I am not to the stage of mounting the top, but maybe this weekend I can doing some measuring and see if my idea will work:) I will keep you informed.

trw that oil pressure gauge doesn't quite look like the one I took out, but it's close. I could post a pic if necessary. Yet I'm curous as to how yours lights up...doesn't look like there's a provision for a lamp (unless it's hidden from pic view?). :?
    Gotcha.
Same Kingdom, Phylum & Class tho. Close enough. :D

There was a guy on here a few months ago that said that he had a decent, black, Whitco(no doors for it). He chimed in on one of the threads discussing tops. At the moment, I better get back to work, my break is over. You could maybe do a search and find the thread, I'll try to find it tonight also. I don't know if he had the correct top for you or not. Whitco offered more than one version back then according to the parts books. I hope that you didn't throw your old top away. Some day you may want to have a new one made for an authentic restoration of your rare Renegade. Of course if you get frustrated with the top, you can sell the whole Jeep to meR) , just kidding, I know what it must mean to you. Good luck and welcome, that looks like a very nice Jeep.
