welp here it is installed, just finishing the plate the spare secures to. I used a heavy duty draw latch w/ a piece of 1/4" rubber belting attached to the back of the swing section....no squeeks or rattles, and very snug. I'll get some close ups of the latch and the stay open mechanism w/ the final pic of the spare installed....MAN THIS HAS BEEN A BUNCH OF WORK!!!!!!!!!!

Looks good. Don't worry about the goober welds. As a younger man, I worked for a guy who called his old three-phase MIG an electric gapper. I learned accordingly. :)

Yea Mike I'm worn out...gonna take a break from the garage to concentrate on the yard for a bit.
Completed the carrier tonight so here's the pics......1st the latch, you can see the draw latch and rubber snubber in this shot
    [IMG]
these are shots of the stay open latch, it worked out really well
    [IMG]
shot of porportions from the side
    [IMG]
    finally from the back

I really like the hinge that I used...it's very smooth, and seems really strong. Two things yet to be done,,,1...add a third brake light in the center of the "hub", 2...install a back up light on a switch. The wiring has been run for these items already so it should be easy, but think I'll wait untill after the coming holiday.

x2. Was just sitting on the throne yesterday and happened to have a back issue of JP mag sitting there, "Best of 2007." There was a shot of the '6 at the Bear ride. Can barely recognize it from that pic.

you know Clint I'd really like to take it back up there now for comparison....the 6 made it alright on that trip but beat the snot outta me....mentaly and physically.....would really like to see how it handles it now. Coming home from the Bear ride I really started to hone my plans for the build.

went out this morning heading to work only to find I had a dead battery. I charged it and went about searching for the short. When I disconnected the pos. cable and then touched it to the post I could hear a clicking noise. I found that the fuel selecter valve was getting power even w/ the key off. I pulled the switch and looked to see what I had used for power. The instructions had called for an accessorry power source, and I assumed (yea I know:rofl:) that the trunk light circuit would suffice....wrong!, it's power on all the time. I switched it to a differant circuit and problem solved :).
You know a year ago none of this would've made sense, but having wired the 6 on my own this wiring thing doesn't scare me anymore....guess you can teach a old dog new tricks R)

Congratulations! Guess you've had a "final exam" of sorts. Well . . . it is that time of year!

I can't wait to have my Jeep where you are at . . . With luck it will be soon.

    Love the 6!

It's amazing the skills you pick up in such a short time when it's something that interests you. Since I've built my Jeep I'm helping others with things like fuel injection. If you asked me two years ago I wouldn't have had a clue.

    Keep up the good work!

started working on the speaker boxes...the rear units will hold 6x9"s, and I designed them as a continuation of the wheel wells. I've got to fill and sand, not sure if I'll paint them or get some black speaker fabric to cover them. The fronts will get started in a few days

Are you doing one speaker in each box?
They look big enough to hold two, top and front.
Possibly even a third on the polygonal side.

    Look great!

I'd take them to a good stereo shop though - might be a way better speaker setup for them than a 6x9 - something with separate components.

Also dont forget a bit of baffling for them - some spare insulation works well.
