I've just used 6" fiberglass insulation stapled to the back )opposite the speakers. It's just to keep them from sounding "boomy".

If you 6x9s are closed back then it probably won't matter -- but if you can see the speaker cone from the backside of the speaker then I'd do the baffling.

Here's a stupid question: Can you use a CB antenna for a radio antenna?

Hmmm not sure...I purchased a short rubber coated antenna that'll mount at any angle. I think I'll post some "whatda ya think of this spot" pics in OT so I can get everyones input
    Thanks, Jim S.

got the stereo wired and installed today....put the unit under dash
    [IMG]
the speaker boxes got bolted in...they're out of harms way I think
    [IMG]
I decided the antenna on the cowl was the best option of the many good ideas posted up in OT
    [IMG]
I'll be able to fold it over if I want the W/S down this way
Need to tie up the wiring....took it out, put AC/DC "Back in Black" in and cranked it up...sounds good at 50mphR)

Nice work and it'll be nice to have tunes on the trail. Do the shifters come close to the radio? When I had my radio there the OD would bump against it when I shifted. Very nice jeep.

Jim, looks lovey, now you have me figuring my radio's (CB and music) out, so many thoughts!!
Now, don't you worry about getting your radio stolen? or is the face plate removable?

With my drivetrain everything is situated farther back several inches compared to stock, with the O/D engaged I have a few inches of space. I would have to shift it back to add/remove CD's :)

Sammy it is a detachable faceplate, and w/ the speakers bolted down it should keep the honest man honest, and be too much trouble for the rest.....it also has a cable direct attachment for my ipod. I can put that in the glovebox and control it from the stereo or via remote . The unit is 4x52 watt so has plenty of umpth for my speakers. Here's a better pic of the unit

PS....I'm gonna mount my CB per Lynns example....up on the spreader bars

finally got around to running the third brake light on Kahuna....
projects that need to be completed before the Aug. Rubicon run....
    1) install CB
    2) rebend H/L and 4WD shifters....they're to close to the front seat to be able to fold it all the way forward
3)build/install a 40"x60" rack that will bolt up on top of the rollcage
    4) build center console (gotta have a place for refreshments)

so trying to get some projects completed before the aug 10 Rubicon trip.
I never completed the shifter setup....the front seat wouldn't fold forward w/o shifting H/ L into low gear, and it wasn't sealed up. I heated the shifters in place and bent them, wrapped a towel around the area and soaked w/ water. I cut a small section of rubber mat to go under the boots then attached the boots in place.
I also brought home materials to make a rack. The plan is for a 40"x60" rack, attached/bolted to the rollbar. It will have a stainless sheet rivited in place ( to provide sun protection), and a secondary hoop 6" above the rack to tie down to/ hold things in place
    [IMG]
I have a friend that works for Borla in Oxnard. Next week the last of the operation is to be transplanted to Tennessee. He brought me a whole bevy of stainless exhuast tips....hey they're free so Kahuna is getting some bling ;)
I've also figured out the CB install so that's in the works as well

Your shifters are quite a bit further back than mine...same tranny...must be that V8...;)

I have shifter/seat interference as well, but have another tcase to put in that has shorter shifters.

I was able to get a good portion of the top rack made this weekend. I cut the fence down to size...42"x60" and welded new sides into it using 1" tube
    [IMG]
I cut the 1" tube in 6" sections and welded them in place
    [IMG]
I used 1" electric conduit for the top ring....I cut 45* bevels at the corners rather than bend it in a radius, just looked better and matched the rack IMHO
    [IMG]
need to finish some welding and make/weld legs that will bolt to the roll cage. I'm having second thoughts about using the 16 gauge SS sheet over the rack, the sheet is pretty heavy by it's self. I may attach some black fabric over the rack instead for sun protection.

That or just use a folded-up tarp - usable for other things while on the trail.

    Looks good Jim!!!!!

I think I would use Aluminum instead of SS for the weight, don't need to be too top heavy on the trail

that's cool. just remember possession is 9/10ths of the law

that's a good idea mike, think I'll do that

they wanted $180 for a 1/8" sheet of alum ....I have the SS, but think the tarp idea will work well

    Thanks, Jim S.
