Joe, I'm only guessing but it is probably brass washers or a brass or bronze sleeve in the center of the sprocket that provides a soft shoulder for the sides of the housing to keep from damaging the aluminum and to provide a rolling surface for the sprocket to turn on the stud.

Like a sleeve bearing with a shoulder? I think I know what I need now. I'm gonna try and whip something up this weekend :)

Hey Mike - if you need another test subject, I'll be more than happy to try out your design!!! If you can machine out the pieces, I'll buy my own bolts, chain, master links, etc...

Well you guys are really trying to keep me busy. Tell you what I'll get on this in the next day or so and see what I can start to whip out in the next few weeks. I will need to find a sprocket and the center bolt for it. If I do this all I will need is enough money to buy the Aluminum bar and some bronze to make the center bushing out of, if you guys are willing to kick in a little money this could be a good project, as Joe Klosterman can testify I don't build junk. let me see how much the material is going to cost to make 4-5 of these and get back with you guys. Maybe $10-15 a piece, does this sound Ok for you guys or not.

Mike, see pics of what I whipped out tonite in the pics forum. Not as nice as a machined piece but it should work well.

The sprocket I used is Tractor Supply P/N 1182006. It has 17 teeth, 1/2 roller bearing bore and used #40 chain ;)

Not to shabby Joe, where did you get the chain? Let us see how you hook it up to the clutch fork when you get around to it, the clutch pedal hook up should be easy.
Joe as far as lubricant I wouldn't put grease or oil on it as it will attract dust and dirt, go to a bike shop and ask for some chain lube for mountain bike chain it is a dry lube that won't attract all the crap on the trail, it works great and lubricates very good.

There's also dry lube for planter boxes available at farm implement dealerships that might work too.

My brother has some dirt bike chain lube I could use and I have some Slip Plate (what Sparky is talking about).

The chain comes in 10ft sections at Tractor Supply.

Mike you say the clutch pedal should be easy to hook up to? I know to put a heim on the little tab but how should I hook that to the chain? I kinda have an idea of how to hook to the fork but would like to hear other peoples ideas first ;)

Joe look at the picture that James posted, notice in this image how they used the sides of the chain and screwed it to a small block of steel with a tapped hole for the heim joint, that is fairly easy to do, then just run a bolt thru the side of the pedal assembly and the heim joint and it should stay together fine.

I actually bought some square stock that fits inside the link because I was planning on doing the same thing. Then I kinda started questioning if the little pin would hold but I guess it will.

I'd like to try and get a cable to go from the fork to the chain for clearance purposes.

If you can get these working let me know - I would be in for 3 of them and I would be willing to front you some $$ if you need it for the materials.

Joe: Looks good. Only 2 comments. It looks like your back plate should be a bit wider--look in my pic that Mcruff posted above. You don't want that thing to move or twist on you. Also the back/mounting plate is 3/16" thick to provide ridigity.

Oh, and that little pin is actually one of the chain pins. Just cut one out of a master link and peen/pin it to the square block
