Got a T14 dana 20 combo for sale on craigslist. It was pulled from a 73 cj5. The guy that is interested in it has a 70 model with a Buick V6and a bad T14 spicer 18. He has the factory adapter on the bellhousing, but my knowledge is limited on the early stuff. Will this tranny work for him? It seems i read somewhere that the spline count is different or the shaft length is funny, can't remember. Any help to get him rolling again and me a little extra cash in my pocket would be greatly appreciated

The D20 has a centered output, so without a change in rear axle it will not work.

My Cj was set up that way when I bought it. Someone had also added the correct axle. Worked very well. I found a 71 offset axle and switch back to that with the 18 transfer case. Seems like the model 20 was a bit quiter.

Center Axle is available if you're interested

yes, the D20 was billed as a "silent" transfer case. The straight-through design is inherently quieter than the offset design. Chain-driven transfer cases are even quieter.
