I'm glad youre keeping the slug, i'd hate to have to re-write the song all because you had a new jeep with a new name....although, with the upgrade to a v6, might have to add something to the name...maybe like super slug or something? maybe we could find someone really good at artistry and you could have your own super slug logo - like mopar used in the late 60's/early 70's with the roadrunner :D

You will need to think about what you want to end up with. Like many here have said, the T98 with the 4cyl is highly sought after and could go a long ways to paying for what you need. I have T90's out the wazoo and 2 SM465s sitting on the floor with only one spoken for.

Saginaw with the right parts takes me a weekend to put in, I have 11" brakes on shelves...

The new name could be SPEEDY SLUG !
Like Matt said - get a little logo ... of a slug spinning its wheels doing a burn out.

    Great news!

Just one question, was the t-98 an option for the CJ5's?

Poor, poor F-head, another one off to the scrape yard....

sounds like it is a rare option to me. Then I wouldn't put a different engine in. Leave it as a original rare piece.

To Bill, A T-18 would fit nicely under your existing floor plates. If it were mine and I were in your position, I'd go with a J-truck T-18 and a Buick V6. I'd let Chuck choose the engine... my choice might not be the same as his, but his opinion is important for obvious reasons.

The T-98 and F134 are worth something as a unit, but they would be worth more if they came with the floor plates. If you switch to a T-90, it will be easier to shift and you can sell the floor plates along with the engine and transmission.

Well, they aren't "rare" like Duesenbergs are rare. I would guess the number of them still in existence is more than 10,000. So not rare based on numbers alone.

Why would a T90 be easier to shift?

IMO, removing a 4 speed and putting in a 3 speed is regression.
    Especially where Bill lives.

Because a B-W 3-speed is easier to shift than a truck 4-speed. Certainly it makes a difference in stop-and-go traffic. A T-15 would be even better.

    I agree though - I would stick with a 4-speed.

A T90 has a non-synchroed 1st gear, so it's actually a little more of a challenge to drive around town (the 4 speed would have a non-synchro 1st gear also, but being a granny gear you wouldn't use it in normal driving) Lots of times I find myself lugging my T90 in 2nd when it would really be better to go down to 1st, just cause I'm too lazy to double clutch it-easier to let the 225's torque get the job done.

Talking with Bill - I will focus on trying to get a T18 to put in it, but those are tough to find here abouts. The SM465 would be a backup plan. I would also recommend keeping the floor plates together, I have several to cut and build with to make a custom one fit.

ChopperDoc in Aurora has offered up a motor that just needs to be built, so when I get it from him, Bill and I will talk pros and cons as I have 2 231's with fresh builds on them sitting on stands (with 4bbl Edelbrock intakes on them).

    Heck - I have a T14, D18, OD sitting on a shelf as well.
