So, it was the alternator that made the chirping noise?
Not to spread dissent among the troops but I've always found an ammeter to be of much more use than a voltmeter, much quicker indicator of a problem.
39 amp alt, no extra lights, 10 amp cooling fan.

    i guess it's the alt.
i cant get that belt any tighter.
and the man that tested it showed me the numbers on his machine(i made like i knew what they meant)
he did say something about 40 amps while it was running.
and told me it was bad.
the pulleys all look like they are the same type to me.

Sometimes an old belt can get 'glazed' from continued slipping and slip no matter how tight you make it. Too tight is bad for the alternator bearings... I suggest you run a new belt with a new alternator. Try the old belt and see if it slips when you make it as tight as you can by just pulling on the alternator.

They also sell 'belt dressing' to stop belts from slipping - I expect it's rosin or something similar. A band-aid IMO; better to just replace the slipping belt.

Bill if the new alternator pulley is not the same groove width as the flywheel groove, and your old one is, then have them swap the pulley from your core to the new alt.
